Coronavirus update: Supporting the immune system

I'm writing this while the UK is in 'lockdown' to limit the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. It's such a strange time we find ourselves in, and I want you to know that while the clinics may be closed, I am still here to support in you any way that I can. In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing suggestions to help us stay connected, healthy and sane!

This is going to be a challenging time that we’re all adjusting to. Please don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you have questions or need advice – I’m here to help.

Supporting our immune system is of paramount importance just now to help avoid the virus, and to mitigate the effects if we do catch it.

Here are some simple tips for keeping strong both physically and emotionally:

  1. Try to get enough sleep – it’s crucial that our bodies have time to rest and repair

  2. Take exercise when you can to keep energy and lymphatics circulating

  3. Avoid cold foods from the fridge/freezer and too many raw food/salads as they can be hard on the digestive system – try for room temperature or cooked foods instead

  4. Add warming herbs and spices to your food – ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cloves and thyme

  5. Limit dairy foods, oranges and bananas that cause mucous to build up

  6. Fried foods have a similar effect, so try to limit those too

  7. Take your supplements – especially Vit C, Vit D, zinc and turmeric. Astragalus and goldenseal are also good.

  8. Reduce stress and anxiety as much as you can (which might be easier said than done at the moment, I know!)

Next time I’ll share some more detail from a Chinese medicine perspective to help strengthen the immune system and calm anxiety at this time.

Questions or concerns? Get in touch...

Please know that I’m very happy to practice ‘telemedicine’ with you via audio or video calls, and can talk you through some useful Acupuncture points to stimulate, and how to do that in the most effective way. This could be to support the conditions you have been coming to see me for, any new symptoms that have developed, or anything else that might be going on for you. I don’t have all the answers but I am here to share what tools I have!

Stay well, stay safe, don’t hesitate to contact me

Warm wishes

Katie
